In order to travel cheaply, you need to know how and where to obtain a great travel deal for your destination. One travel secrets is that you must be cautious though. You don’t want to be handed a supposedly cheap deal on an expensive destination or resort and in the busy season. You will have to really cut your needs to match your budget.

Be a spur of the moment traveler.

You can get cheap travel deals when you are flexible on your travel plans. This Means being an on the spur moment travel. I know this is not the ideal thing to do and not many people can travel at a moment’s notice or change destinations for that matter. But being able to do this can be very exciting. It can be a great adventure indeed. You can get to experience foreign cultures in unexpected destinations.

You can also cut your costs by taking a bus instead of an airplane to the airport and think about taking a courier flight where you can sign to carry sensitive documents or parcels. Taking a courier flight will slash your airfares but you will have to travel light as you can only take carry-on luggage on the flight.

Other things to think about is drinking and eating the same way as the locals instead of expecting to eat the same way as you would at home. Local food and drink will be a lot cheaper than expecting steak and a beer which is likely to be imported. You don’t have to spend money on activities – take part in a street festival in Mexico instead of paying to go to a restaurant and bar. Pay a local guide to take you around the local sights and countryside instead of going on a commercial guided tour. Just remember, if you don’t haggle with people when you travel you will never get a discount and if you can’t get a discount after you haggle, walk away as there is always an alternative that costs you less.

Make your own accommodation arrangements.

If you are traveling for long periods of time consider renting private accommodation in a city that interests you. Hire a campervan and save a lot of money on hotel rooms by paying a small fee for camping in some of the most beautiful settings in the world.

If you are an opportunistic traveler, a whole world could open up to you in terms of how much savings you can make. Obviously, this is not suited for family travel. But if you are just alone or you are two, you have a lot of travel deals that could be awaiting you.
